Free Guy, Movie Poster (2021)

The person who lives a great lie, everyone around him knows the truth, except him, they all share the lie, while he believes that the life he lives is completely “real” and “authentic”, and the goal of the lie in the end is to achieve a commercial and capitalistic goal in the first place for hidden people In the shadows, they use this deceived person in order to achieve their own agendas.

That’s the common connection between Ryan Reynolds’ new movie Free Guy and Jim Carrey’s masterpiece The Truman Show, 23 years after Truman, amidst a world of secondary characters who play their role artificially in order to convey the illusion that this world is real, and that this character has “free will”, while the world of “Guy” is in fact written according to a very precise “script” that determines the paths that he must follow, in order to achieve a certain benefit. A benefit only in favor to those who created and owned this artificial world.

Jim Carrey (back in 1998) was living inside a closed studio monitored by hundreds of cameras in order to produce a tv show that broadcasts to millions of viewers around the world, all of whom knew the lie, except for “Truman” — Carrey -. Reynolds (in the year 2021) lives in a world of artificial intelligence, within an interactive game in which millions of users also participate around the world, all of them knowing that he is just a secondary character who has no free-will, while he does not know that fact. In the end, the two characters realize the lie, and try to rewrite their own stories and fulfill their own destiny.

The movie Free Guy comes at the same time that Mark Zuckerberg and his giant company “Facebook” announce that they are investing 20% of the company’s resources and billions of dollars in creating a parallel world called the Metaverse that will place all participants in a virtual world enhanced by artificial intelligence (similar to the famous computer game: Second Life, if you remember it), Users will have parallel lives on Facebook (using special VR headsets and microchip implants) in which we interact, attend parties, meet people thousands of miles away, share interests, and build companies based on pre-written scripts, which will give us A sense of control, but we — hence the importance of the two films and similar fiction work — are fully aware of who is pulling the strings of the game behind the scenes.

Fear, but beware.
